futurEU Visits The Bundestag

"You don’t go into Politics to be liked. You go into politics to make difficult decisions” - Tilman Kuban

Last Thursday (Nov 16th) 15 of our club’s members got the opportunity to visit the Bundestag. We were hosted by with German member of Parliament Tilman Kuban. Mr. Kuban is a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in the parliament. He serve on the Committee of Economic Affairs and the Committee of European Affairs. In the latter capacity, he is his parliamentary group’s rapporteur on Europe’s relations with Ukraine.

During our visit, we were met Mr. Kuban and his team at the Paul-Löbe-Haus which houses 250 members of parliaments’ offices as well as committee meeting rooms. Our group had the opportunity to ask Mr. Kuban and Alexander Hubert, his chief of staff, critical questions on a variety of topics. Starting off on the EU’s China and the EU’s decoupling vs. derisking dilemma in trade, we moved on to topics of Union enlargement and necessary reforms of the institutions. As our time together came to an end, Mr. Kuban pleaded with us and our generation more widely to get involved in society and take responsibility for tackling the world’s great challenges.

Following our captivating discussion, we went on a tour of the Deutscher Bundestag’s. After all, we couldn’t leave without seeing the building’s iconic glass dome from up close and enjoying the fantastic view over the city. Having this type of face time with our representatives is rare, and we’re thankful for his generosity to our club members!
