Climate Change and Societal Transformation: How Can EU Policy Advance Climate Protection and Sustainability in a Turbulent World?

How can the EU address the climate crisis and promote just and ecologically-sustainable societal transformation? The climate crisis requires urgent and cohesive responses from EU policymakers. There is no debate on our need to act on climate change, but on how to act, it’s another story. In international negotiations, the European Union has appeared both as a leader and a mediator. However, the EU must - now more than ever - make real and collective contributions to advancing societal transformation. The EU has a responsibility to lead the way in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and  transitioning to renewable sources of energy. This is especially important in light of the ongoing energy crisis. The EU must actively pursue change while recognizing the social dimension of climate change as well as the impact of its policy choices.

Carefully consider the specific next steps the EU should take in advancing climate protection and sustainability. Building on the existing policy framework: you can put forward ideas regarding the actual implementation of policies (institutional and regulatory aspects) or new policy solutions.

We ask you to submit forward-looking and concrete proposals regarding climate protection and achieving just and ecologically-sustainable societal transformation. You are, however, free to choose any policy area.
