The futurEU Competition 2023 came to an end! After some incredible finals, we have the winners of this third edition.
The Winning Brief
Eman Atta Maan and Francois Praum won with their proposal on amending the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism to make it more equitable and inclusive.

Final
Our Winners, Francois and Eman, bachelor students from Bocconi University presented their impressive vision for a revised EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) which doesn’t leave the vulnerable behind. Our Finalist Team and Winners of the People’s Choice Award, Luca, Martino and Giacomo proposed an ambitious plan to “Save the planet on a Friday off”.

Semi-Finals
Eight teams of bachelor and master students from the Hertie School, Bocconi University, the London School of Economics and Sciences Po presented their visionary proposals for the future of the EU’s climate policy. Do you have a desire for night trains? What about stated aid for a climate resilient agricultural sector? Leveraging the markets for sustainable growth? Or should we tax our frequent fliers for air justice? Can geoengineering be a valuable tool? Or last, what role for gender equality in addressing climate change?

Our futurEU Members, Patrick and Greta will be welcoming you to the Final of the third edition of the futurEU Competition 2023. They will introduce you to our amazing panel of judges, and kick off the Final.

Cornelia Woll, is the President of the Hertie School and Professor of International Political Economy. Woll came to the Hertie School in 2022 from Sciences Po in Paris, where she had served in many roles since 2006, including President of the Academic Board, Professor of Political Science, Co-Director of the Max Planck Sciences Po Center. She has been a visiting professor at Goethe University Frankfurt and Harvard University. Woll holds a habilitation in political science from the University of Bremen (2013), a bi-national PhD from Sciences Po and the University of Cologne (2005), and an MA and a BA in international relations and political science from the University of Chicago.

The two finalist teams will present their visionary proposals for future generations. After their presentations the judges will open the Q&A, followed by questions from the audience, both live and online.

While we wait on the judges panel to deliberate, we will be hearing from futurEU members and the students from the Observer track from five different universities from Ukraine.
